About Your Beverage Database & Autocomplete
One of our core beliefs at Taplist.io is: You should have control.
The design of your Beverage Database is unique in the industry, because it applies this philosophy to give you the maximum possible control over what goes on your menu.
Private Database
To add products to your menu, you will see an autocomplete text field. This field automatically searches your private database, and allows you to create new products when there are no matches.
When you create a new beverage, beverage producer, or beverage style, this record is stored in your private database. This means:
- Other Taplist.io customers cannot see or access these records.
- Only you and your team can see, edit, or change these records.
Many of our customers appreciate the control & customization this "default private" approach gives them.
Feature alert: If you are managing multiple locations with our multi-location feature, all locations will share the same private database.
When you create your Taplist.io account, your database will be initially empty until you start creating products.
Autocomplete from Public Database
It's no fun to manually enter beverage information! That's why Taplist.io also supports autocomplete from a large, global database of public beer & beverage information. Here's how it works:
- Start by typing the beverage name in the autocomplete box.
- As you type, Taplist.io shows any matches from your private database first, as described in the section above.
- If there aren't any (or many) matches in your private database, Taplist.io also searches and shows matches from the global public database.
- You can select any match, or press "Create new" to create a brand new record, just like before.
Editing and replacing data from the Public Database
When you select a beverage from the public database, it is copied into your private database. That means you can edit and update these records within your account.
Why would I want to change content from the public database?
We've learned our customers appreciate having this option for several reasons:
- To make a correction: It's a fact of life: Sometimes public beverage databases have incorrect or outdated information.
- To use your own words: If you don't like the public description of a product, you can add and use your own.
- To use different artwork: Many beverages in the public database have their own logos, but you may wish to use a different version.
Your edits are saved locally, and are not copied back to the public database. Be as unique as you want to be!
